About the Event
Sex offenders historically are known for being deceptive and resistant to treatment. Participants will be introduced to strategies to overcome “normal” boundaries to discussing personal, secret, embarrassing, sexual, or hurtful things that the offender has done or fantasizes about doing, knowing that there may or will be consequences for such disclosures. In addition, techniques will be introduced to help prepare the offender for treatment.
At the conclusion of the session, participants will be able to:
- List reasons why sex offenders are often deceptive and resistant to treatment.
- Demonstrate techniques to enhance interaction with offenders.
- Explain a process to assist offenders for treatment readiness.
- Explain principles that can be applied to break through denial.
